Best Treatments to Get Rid Of Acne

If you have acne, you already know that it can be challenging to treat.  But there’s good news, because there are treatments available that can treat your breakouts, and stop them from coming back.  But what are some of the best treatments to get rid of acne and clear your skin.

What is acne?

Acne is a skin condition characterized by the inflammation of the oil glands attached to the hair follicle.  If the hair follicle becomes blocked due to a build-up of oil and dead skin cells, it can lead to the growth of the p. acnes bacteria, resulting in the formation of inflammatory bumps such as pustules and papules.

Best Treatments to Get Rid Of Acne

Laser and light therapies are considered the best treatments to get rid of acne.

  • Laser therapy for acne

Lasers emit a concentrated beam of light that specifically targets the bacteria in the skin, which is responsible for acne breakouts.   Lasers can also help to lighten acne scars.  Fractional lasers and carbon dioxide lasers are commonly used to treat acne and acne scars.

  • Light therapy for acne

Light therapy is a non-invasive treatment in which the skin is exposed to different wavelengths of light.  The light penetrates the pores and kills the acne causing bacteria, which is sensitive to specific wavelengths.  Light therapy also shrinks pores, and reduces oil production in the sebaceous glands. There are different types of light therapies available for treating acne including infrared light, intense pulsed light (IPL), and red and blue light.

Laser and light therapies are often combined with other treatments in order to achieve optimal outcomes when treating acne.
