Since botox came on the scene in the late 1990’s, it has become the top non-surgical anti-wrinkle treatment. Botox has gained such a huge reputation, that many people don’t realize that there are similar options like Dysport that are just as effective. So if you had to compare botox cosmetic vs dysport: how would you determine which is best.
Botox and Dysport
Botox and Dysport are known as injectable neurotoxins. They both contain the same active ingredient botulinum toxin type A, and can rejuvenate the face by smoothing wrinkles and fine lines. They work by interrupting the nerve pulses normally transmitted to the muscles, which in turn prevents the contraction of the muscles. They are effective for smoothing wrinkles at the corner of the eyes, across the forehead, and between the eyebrows.
Which is best?
Botox and dysport are very similar, but there are some very slight differences in the properties of the 2 products. Dysport is comprised of smaller molecules, and spreads out more than botox, so some injectors prefer to use it for larger areas of the face. On the flip side some injectors like botox because it does not readily migrate from the area when injected, which makes it better for smaller areas.
Both products last for 3-6 months, and are injected in a similar manner. The injector will determine which product is best based on the area being treated, as well as personal preference.
