Can spider veins come back after treatments? That’s probably one of the most common questions we get asked here at Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa, by patients desiring treatment for spider veins. Most people are so happy to eliminate their unsightly spider veins they hope to never see them again. So let’s find out if they’ll get their wish.
Spider Veins
Spider veins are tiny dilated blood vessels that are red or purple in color, and are shaped like a spider web. They can occur on the legs and face.
Spider veins are formed due to a build-up of pressure in the veins, which results in a backflow of blood. This is often caused by a malfunctioning valve.
Spider Vein Treatment
There are several methods that can be used to treat spider veins. At Wisconsin Vein Center we use Endovenous laser therapy (ELT) to treat spider veins on the legs. ELT is a minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasound visualization.
How it works
The area to be treated is first anesthetized, and then thelaser fiber is inserted into the abnormal vein. The heat energy is absorbed by the vein, causing it to shrink and eventually collapse.
Can spider veins come back?
Once spider veins are destroyed, they’re gone for good. However, if you’re genetically predisposed to getting them, there is every chance that new veins can develop. So it may appear as if they have returned, but they really are not the same veins.
If you are prone to getting spider veins then new veins can develop in the future, and there is very little that can be done to stop them.
