If you have veins that are causing you discomfort, you can certainly benefit from vein removal treatment. But how are veins removed? Most patients with varicose or spider veins can have their concerns resolved by undergoing a minimally invasive vein treatment.
Varicose veins and spider veins are generally caused by damaged one-way valves that fail to close off as normal, causing the veins to pool with blood. Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged blood vessels that often form in the legs. Spider veins (telangiectasias) are smaller, web-like veins that generally appear just below the surface of the skin on the face or legs.
How are veins removed?
The vein removal method used, depends on the type and location of the veins.
Facial veins are typically removed using laser therapy with the pulsed dye laser. The laser emits strong pulses of laser energy into the vein, which is converted into heat and damages the vein, causing it to slowly fade and disappear.
Varicose veins on the legs may be treated with a type of laser therapy known as Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA). With EVLA, a tiny laser is inserted into the affected vein, and emits light waves that close off the vein. VenaSeal can also be used to treat varicose veins. The procedure involves the use of medical grade adhesive to glue the walls of the vein together. Endovenous Radiofrequency (EVRF) is another treatment for varicose veins.
Spider veins are typically treated with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is carried out by injecting a sclerosing agent directly into the damaged vein, causing it to collapse.
