If you have forehead wrinkles and lines that you’d like to get rid of, botox is probably the first anti-aging treatment you think of. While botox remains the top choice for removing dynamic facial wrinkles there are alternatives like dysport now available. But what are the advantages of dysport over botox.
Dysport and botox
Dysport and botox are both neuromodulators derived from botulinum toxin, so they work in a very similar fashion. They target the muscles that give rise to dynamic facial wrinkles on the forehead, and around the eyes. Small amounts of dysport and botox are injected into the muscles causing them to relax, and the overlying wrinkles soften within days.
What are the advantages of dysport over botox?
Despite the obvious similarities between dysport and botox, some differences have been identified in clinical studies. In addition, doctors with patients that have tried both products have noticed some advantages with dysport, as follows:
- Dysport has a quicker onset of activity. Dysport usually starts to work in 1-2 days, compared to 5-7 days with botox, so the visible results show in a shorter time with dysport.
- Dysport lasts longer. There are studies that indicate that dysport lasts somewhat longer than botox.
- Dysport spreads more evenly through the muscle than botox, because it has smaller molecules. This makes it a good option for larger areas.
- Dysport tends to be less expensive than botox.
