Would you like to have hair free skin, but don’t want to spend time waxing, plucking, or shaving hair? If you’re looking for an alternative, it may be time to consider laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is fast and effective, and provides long lasting results. But what is recovery like for laser hair removal.
How lasers remove hair
Laser hair removal is a process that uses laser energy to get rid of unwanted hair. The laser emits light that targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair. The pigment absorbs the light and then converts it to heat, and this destroys the hair follicle so that it isn’t able to grow new hair. Patients may notice some improvement after treatment, and the treated hair will fall out gradually over the next few weeks.
Common laser hair removal areas for women include the underarms, legs, and bikini line, while the chest and back are popular areas for men. It typically requires a series of 2-4 treatments to achieve optimal hair reduction.
What is recovery like for laser hair removal
There is virtually no recovery time needed after laser hair removal. At the end of the procedure the skin will look red and irritated ( much like a sunburn), but this usually clears within a day or two. A cold compress can be used to soothe the area and minimize irritation. Patients are advised to protect the treated area by wearing sunblock when going out in the sun and limiting sun exposure (click here to learn more).
