How Does Kybella Work?

If you’ve tried and failed to get rid of the fullness below your chin, Kybella may be the solution for you.  Kybella is a fat-dissolving injectable treatment that is specially designed to reduce submental fullness, i.e. fat below the chin, often referred to as a double chin.  But how does kybella work?

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

Kybella is a quick in-office procedure that involves making multiple injections into the fat under the chin.

When kybella is injected into the fat cells it dissolves the cells within minutes.  The cellular debris is then naturally cleared from the body over the following weeks, resulting in a more contoured jawline and younger-looking profile.  The treated fat cells can no longer store fat, so the results of kybella are long-lasting.

When Will You See Results?

The results of Kybella are not immediate because the fat cells break down over several weeks.  Most patients notice an initial decrease in the amount of fat below the chin about 2-3 months after treatment.

How Many Treatments Do You Need?

The number of treatments needed varies as it depends on the amount of excess fat under the chin, and the aesthetic goals of the patient.  The best results are seen after 2-4 treatments.  Sessions are spaced 4 weeks apart.
