If you would like to stop shaving or tweezing unwanted hair, laser hair removal can give you long-lasting smoothness. After a few treatments, you will be able to say goodbye to shaving for good. But how many laser hair removal treatments will you need.
How laser hair removal works
The laser light penetrates the skin and selectively targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. The light converts to heat which is absorbed by the follicle. The heat damages the hair follicle and inhibits hair growth. The treated hair falls out in due course in the following weeks.
How many laser hair removal treatments do I need?
Some patients experience minimal hair reduction after the first treatment, but it typically takes 4-8 hair removal treatments to achieve the best results. Patients therefore have to be consistent to get the results they want.
The speed with which results are seen with laser hair removal depends on variables such as the skin type, texture and thickness of the hair, and the laser system being used.
Patients can expect to see at least 50% hair reduction by the third treatment, and this will go up to about 90% by the sixth treatment.
Hair growth takes place in cycles, and as a result, all hair won’t be treated in one session, and that’s why it takes multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Patients may feel a warming sensation during laser hair removal, but the treatment is not considered painful.
