Are you considering botox for your facial wrinkles? That’s not surprising, given the fact that it has been the most popular anti-wrinkle treatment in the US for several years. However, despite its growing popularity, most people don’t understand how botox works, or how much it typically costs.
What is botox?
Botox or botulinum toxin type A is a neuromodulator that is used to address frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.
How botox works
Botox blocks the nerve impulses, which has the effect of temporarily relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. This causes dynamic wrinkles to soften, resulting in smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. The results of botox last approximately 3-4 months.
How much does botox typically cost?
The average cost of botox is $550 per treatment area, but depending on the area being treated, the cost can range from $25 to $1,150.
Some practices charge a set price per area for botox, while others charge by the number of units. A unit of botox costs between $10 and $25. On average, it takes about 20 units of botox to relax frown lines, and 15 units to relax crow’s feet. However, the number of units each patient will need won’t be the same, because it is affected by factors such as the strength and size of their facial muscles, and the severity of the lines and wrinkles.
Patients are advised not to choose a botox injector by price alone, and to avoid highly discounted treatments. They should instead choose a trained and experienced botox injector with significant experience.
