Men with gynecomastia sometimes have feelings of anxiety and desire breast reduction, so they often ask their doctor – Am I a good candidate for male breast reduction.
What is gynecomastia?
The condition of enlarged breasts in men is known medically as gynecomastia. It is a common problem that affects both boys and men of any shape and size, and is often caused by hormonal fluctuations during puberty. Certain medications can also cause gynecomastia.
Male breast reduction surgery
Male breast reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure that may take the form of surgical excision or liposuction. Surgical excision is recommended in instances where there is mostly excess glandular tissue, while liposuction focuses on removing any extra fat. However, there are times when a combination of both procedures may be required.
Are you a good candidate for male breast reduction?
If you are bothered by your breasts because they are larger than normal, and would like to have a flatter, more masculine chest, you are likely to be a good candidate for male breast reduction. You should also be in good health, and at a stable weight. If you are overweight, then breast reduction may not be a good idea. It’s usually best to lose the extra weight before considering surgery.
If you suffer from gynecomastia you are not without help, because male breast reduction can make you feel confident in your appearance once again. However, be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon that has a lot of experience performing male breast reduction surgery.
